About Gamer's Voice Awards

The Gamer’s Voice Award began in 2013 as a way to bring the best in indie game development to the world’s stage at SXSW. Now in its fifth year, the Gamer’s Voice Award has grown to become one of the largest, and most impactful, experiences for hundreds of indie developers and teams throughout the gaming industry. With past successes including titles such as SUPERHOT, Gang Beasts, ARENA GODS, and Owlboy, this key part of the SXSW Gaming festival has become a great opportunity to facilitate growth in both budding and completed indie projects.

Each year, SXSW Gaming staff members invite only a handful of the best games from among hundreds of entries to receive an exhibition spot at the SXSW Gaming Expo so that they can compete for a coveted Gamer’s Voice Award, with winners chosen exclusively by attendees.

If you’re developing a new game title, and you’re eager to put it in the hands of thousands of gamers and industry professionals, then look no further than the Gamer’s Voice Awards.

SXSW Gaming 2018 takes place in the Austin Convention Center in Austin, Texas from Thursday, March 15 – Saturday, March 17.

Entry & Judging Process

Gamer’s Voice

The Gamer’s Voice Awards are open for all entries from Tuesday, September 12 – Friday, December 8. The Gamer’s Voice Awards are unique from the primary Gaming Awards categories as only indie developers and teams with titles released (or slated to be released) in either the 2017 or 2018 calendar years will qualify for consideration.

Nominees for the Gamer’s Voice Awards, as selected exclusively by the SXSW Gaming staff who play every entry, will receive an exclusive space in the Indie Corner on the SXSW Gaming Expo floor to exhibit their nominated title. From there, Gaming Expo attendees will have the chance to play each nominated title and vote to determine the winner of the award, which will be announced during the Gaming Awards ceremony on the closing night of SXSW Gaming 2018.
