LIBERATED by Atomic Wolf

LIBERATED is a dystopian fiction game with reach storyline. It tells a story of the world in the near future where modern technology turned against people. Omnipresent technology, social media, video surveillance, profiling – all these elements accompany us in our life today and information collected with the help of technology is used against people to manipulate them.

Finalist: Small Squadron

Small Squadron by Implausible Games

Small Squadron is a flight combat game that revives Star Fox and Rogue Squadron-style gameplay with a Lego Movie aesthetic. When a battalion of forgotten toys breaks free from the attic, it’s up to a 90s Polly Pocket-inspired doll and her wingman to stop their vengeful attack. Designed for couch co-op on Nintendo Switch, Small Squadron revitalizes the classic genre for a new era.

Roundguard is a bouncy physics-based roguelite with a cast of oddballs (a Warrior, Rogue, and Wizard), procedural dungeons, and lots of loot. It’s like if Peggle played D&D in the basement!

Depths of Sanity is a Metroidvania action adventure game based on exploring the depths of the ocean. The player is tasked with searching for a missing crew that disappeared while investigating oceanic disturbances. As they delve deeper it may seem that other, more sinister, forces are at work.

But in outer space it’s not just about making your home feel cozy, there’s also a looming alien menace and the dangers of space looking to catch your wayfaring group by surprise.

Space Idols

Space Idols by Beautiful Glitch

The first space k-pop multiplayer simulator! A narrative wacky adventure where up to 4 friends can play as the members of an intergalactic k-pop band that’s touring through space. You must grow as musicians by getting better at specific tasks so each one can, in the end, acquire a clear role within the band (singer, dancer, songwriter, and more).


WaveCrash!! by Flyover Games

WaveCrash!! is a surreal head-to-head puzzle brawler where you match blocks to smash faces. By combining elements of fighting games and the core mechanics of falling block puzzle games, WaveCrash!! is friendly to newcomers but intense enough for seasoned competitors. It’s been described by players as “unique”, “addictive” and “cutthroat” and by its developer, Flyover Games, as “the hypest indie puzzle game around!”

Gaming Pitch Competition Format


Entry & Selection Process

The Gaming Pitch Competition application period was open for all entries from Monday, June 25 – Friday, December 7. Applicants were encouraged to enter games at any stage of development (from ideation to completed products) for consideration. Qualifying games must not have been expected to be released prior to January 1, 2019 and could not have sourced more than $5 million in total combined funding.

Competition Format

The Gaming Pitch Competition takes place over a period of two days across two rounds of pitches. The first round of pitches will be in a closed-door environment to determine a total of 4 finalists. From there, each of the 4 finalists will participate in the Gaming Pitch Competition Finals on the Discovery Stage to an audience of hundreds of SXSW Gaming attendees. Pitches will be judged on a variety of factors including originality and enjoyability, marketing and launch plan, potential actualization, and overall team and presentation.

Complimentary coaching sessions will be available with a pre-determined industry professional to help refine pitch structure and execution for each round of the Gaming Pitch Competition.

Greyfall: The Endless Dungeon – Therion Games
Greyfall is a Diablo®-like ARPG with dungeon creation, Dark Souls®-like final bosses, no class restrictions and infinite replayability.

Plunder Panic – GEL Lab at Michigan State University
Plunder Panic is a swashbuckling, 12-person multiplayer arcade game where two rival crews battle for supremacy on the high seas. Defeat the enemy captain, scuttle their ship, plunder enough booty or end up shark bait in Davy Jones’ Locker!

Intruders: Hide & Seek – Tessera Studios
Intruders is a VR first person stealth experience where you play Ben, a 13 year old kid who is surviving a living nightmare in which you must rescue his kidnapped parents while avoiding three vicious intruders.


SwapBots – SwapBots Ltd
SwapBots are collectible toys that use augmented reality to create a spectacular, interactive video game world around a physical toy. By swapping pieces of the SwapBots, the player can influence in-game attributes. The player simply points their phone or tablet at the SwapBot toy to see it come to life as the digital animation is overlaid onto it.
