The SXSW PanelPicker has officially closed for the 2018 SXSW Gaming Festival. With over 4,000 unique proposals entered for SXSW, SXSW EDU, and SXSW Gaming, we can’t wait to dig into all the new ideas that you’ll be able to hear and see at next year’s festival.

Some initial trends taken from the PanelPicker for SXSW Gaming this year even include themes stemming from SXSW Gaming 2017!

Exploring the Business of Esports

We don’t need to know what esports is anymore. We’ve all experienced esports in one way or another as fans and competitors, and even the notion of competitive gaming has been around since the first local multiplayer. Now the questions that are being asked involve topics such as what’s being done to expand the viability of esports? How are spectator habits evolving in the industry and how do we know what games are coming next or here to stay? Where do health and wellness come into consideration, and what impact can your diverse communities have on marketing dollars or team income?

SXSW Gaming 2018 is bound to be a major destination for professionals in esports to exchange new theories and ideas on where to take the industry next. And for those interested in breaking into the business of competitive gaming, this is your can’t-miss opportunity to do so.

Compassion in Gaming

The virality of violence and hate in modern-day gaming culture can be seen clearly across social media, online forums, and a swath of online multiplayer interactions. Our current social landscape has gone too far, having taken a hold of many individual gamer’s lives in severely negative ways.

The need for a shift in focus towards compassion, caring, and understanding for one another is all too clear. The time for spreading hate must come to an end, and SXSW Gaming is determined to champion this vital cause so that future gamers have a much better environment to feel comfortable in. With several key conversations beginning to take shape for next year’s festival, we couldn’t be more excited to help provide a platform for positivity in gaming.
