The rush towards SXSW 2018 begins this summer as PanelPicker® reopens on Monday, June 26 with a call for all speaker entries to the 2018 SXSW Gaming Conference, taking place in Austin, Texas next March.
Taking place from June 26 – July 21, the PanelPicker system serves as an open platform for the public to contribute new ideas on what will shape the industry conversations of tomorrow during each year’s event. In fact, over half of all programmed content at SXSW originates from the PanelPicker process each summer.
SXSW has always valued community input and involvement, and as a result, the two-step online process called PanelPicker was developed to encourage the SXSW community to enter proposals and have a significant voice in daytime conference programming.
How It Works
During the open application process, we encourage the community to upload proposals relating to all kinds of gaming and geek culture content for a variety of formats that includes panels, solo presentations, meet ups, and more. With all received ideas being posted online for the community for voting, it’s now as easy as “enter, review, comment, and vote” to help shape next year’s SXSW Gaming programming lineup.
All community votes during the PanelPicker entry period comprise 30% of the final decision for what will be seen at SXSW Gaming 2018. Additionally, input of the SXSW Staff (30%) and Advisory Board (40%) helps to also ensure that less well-known voices have as much of a chance of being selected to speak at SXSW as individuals with large online followings. Together these percentages help determine the final content lineup for each year.
Mark your calendars for June 26, and stay tuned for more information as everything gets closer to the launch day of PanelPicker 2018.
