SXSW Gaming is proud to reveal its lineup of judges for the 2019 Gaming Pitch Competition which includes world-renowned industry veterans and companies ranging from 343 Industries and Devolver Digital to Rooster Teeth Games and Nickelodeon. Entering its third year as the definitive discovery platform for the newest indie games at SXSW, the Gaming Pitch Competition is on course for having its most impactful year yet.
David Eddings (Rooster Teeth Games)
Known as the voice behind the lovable robot Claptrap in the Borderlands franchise, David has spent most of the past 20 years in the game industry as a behind-the-scenes player. From publishing games with Gathering of Developers (Max Payne, Tropico, Serious Sam) to producing action figures (Call of Duty, Unreal Tournament, America’s Army) to joining developer Gearbox Software as VP of Biz Dev, he’s finally returned to his roots as the Head of Publishing for Rooster Teeth Games.
Justin Bailey (Fig)
Justin Bailey is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Fig. Previously, Justin served as the Chief Operating Officer at Double Fine Productions, Inc., where he helped publish a variety of premium, free-to-play, and mobile games, such as Broken Age (formerly known as Double Fine Adventures), Massive Chalice, and the relaunch of Grim Fandango, one of the highest rated games of all time. He has also established a new independent publishing label called “Double Fine Presents” which focuses on helping indies. Furthermore, Justin has been involved with a number of acquisitions, investments, licensing and planning at companies including BANDAI NAMCO and Perfect World.
Kiki Wolfkill (343 Industries)
Kiki Wolfkill leads 343 Industries’ transmedia and entertainment efforts. She served as Executive Producer on the digital series “Halo: The Fall of Reach”, “Halo: Nightfall”, as well as for the recently announced Halo television series being developed with Showtime. As a passionate storyteller both in and out of games, Kiki brings together her production background and her creative leadership to deliver on the next chapter in Halo’s expansive universe. Kiki joined 343 Industries in 2009 as Executive Producer and was responsible for building the internal “Halo 4” game team and shipping “Halo 4.” An industry veteran of nearly 20 years, Kiki’s career in games began in the visual arts, where she eventually became Director of Art of Microsoft Studios. Her past credits include the Project Gotham Racing and Forza Motorsport franchises, as well as classics like Fable, Crackdown, Gears of War, and Mass Effect.
Raphael Colantonio (Independent Consultant)
Raphael Colantonio is currently a consultant in game design. Previously, he was President and Co-Creative Director of Arkane Studios until September 2017. Raphael founded Arkane Studios in 1999 in Lyon, France and expanded to Austin, Texas in 2005. In 2010, he sold the studio to ZeniMax Media, Inc. He directed Prey (PC/XboxOne/PS4), co-directed Dishonored (PC/Xbox360/PS3), directed Dark Messiah of Might and Magic (PC), and directed Arx Fatalis (PC)
Nigel Lowrie (Devolver Digital)
Nigel Lowrie is a partner at Devolver Digital, leading marketing and part of the business development team. It’s really the only job he’s ever had in video games and has fooled most folks he’s interacted with in the industry thus far.
Stephanie Puri (id Software)
Stephanie Puri is the User Research Manager for the Bethesda Softworks Lab in Dallas, TX; she has 10 years of industry user research experience and has worked many AAA franchises including DOOM, Dishonored, The Elder Scrolls, and Prey. She is also an adjunct professor at SMU’s Guildhall. Outside of work Stephanie enjoys experimenting with food and cocktail recipes, cosplaying, and watching anime… and of course playing video games.
Ted Regulski (505 Games)
Ted has worked in the gaming industry for over 15 years, running the gamut from media, to first-party and now third party publisher. At 505 Games, Ted has helped sign such titles as the BAFTA-Award Winning Virginia, the Kickstarter mega-hit Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, Lab Zero Games’ latest Indivisible and other great 505 Games titles. Previously, Ted worked at Sony on the PubFund Program with such titles as Papo & Yo and Dyad, and at Sony Santa Monica External Development on titles such as .detuned and God of War: Ghost of Sparta.
Thomas Puha (Remedy Entertainment)
Thomas Puha is a Finnish gaming industry veteran and the Communications Director at Remedy Entertainment where looks after the messaging of the developers upcoming games such as Control and Crossfire 2 HD. He is also the co-founder of the Finnish video games magazine Pelaaja and has contributed to publications like Edge and IGN.
