2019 SXSW Gaming Award Ceremony

The sixth-annual SXSW Gaming Awards powered by 360 Studios and MoreFrames Animation and hosted by Lindsay Jones and Alex Corea, closed out Saturday evening to thunderous applause from an incredible audience. With a night full of surprises, we’re proud to share who our final 25 award winners were for this year’s main event.

Award winner highlights for the 2019 SXSW Gaming Awards included Video Game of the Year winner God of War (SIE / Sony Santa Monica Studios); Mobile Game of the Year winner Donut County (Annapurna Interactive / Ben Esposito); Tabletop Game of the Year winner Root (Leder Games); VR Game of the Year winner Beat Saber (Beat Saber); and Trending Game of the Year winner Red Dead Redemption 2 (Rockstar Games).

Excellence in Art: Octopath Traveler
Awarded to the game with the most expressive and creative artistic style.

Excellence in Animation: Marvel’s Spider-Man
Awarded to the game with the most outstanding animations.

Excellence in Visual Achievement: God of War
Awarded to the game with the most well-designed and stunning visuals.

Excellence in Technical Achievement: Red Dead Redemption 2
Awarded to the game that pushed the capabilities of technology and programming.

Excellence in Gameplay: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
Awarded to the game with the best gameplay mechanics.

Excellence in Multiplayer: Fortnite
Awarded to the game with the best player-to-player interaction experience.

Excellence in Narrative: Detroit: Become Human
Awarded to the game with the best storyline and dialogue.

Excellence in Convergence: Marvel’s Spider-Man
Awarded to the game that excels in crossover to other entertainment mediums such as film, music, toys, animation, sports and more.

Matthew Crump Cultural Innovation Award: Celeste
Awarded to the game that best challenges the “norm” of everyday gaming and offers a culturally innovative view of a game world, character, or gameplay.

Excellence in Musical Score: Tetris Effect
Awarded to the game that best exemplifies artistic excellence in musical score and how it progresses the narrative of the game.

Excellence in Design: God of War
Awarded to the game with the best overall design concept and best execution.

Most Promising New Intellectual Property: Beat Saber
Awarded to a new property that risked creating something fresh and that excelled within its genre or category for the year.

Most Evolved Game: No Man’s Sky NEXT
Awarded to the game that was enhanced with the best additional content after its original release.

Most Promising New Esports Game: Fortnite
Awarded to the online game that has the best competitive scene, or potential to grow one, and most entertainment value.

Most Fulfilling Community-Funded Game: CrossCode
Awarded to the game that was primarily produced via crowdfunding platforms and had excelled beyond the expectations set before it.

Gamer’s Voice Tabletop Game: Tsukuyumi: Full Moon Down
Awarded to the best indie tabletop game as voted by SXSW Gaming attendees.

Gamer’s Voice Virtual Reality Game: Intruders: Hide & Seek
Awarded to the best indie virtual reality game as voted by SXSW Gaming attendees.

Gamer’s Voice Mobile Game: Pico Tanks: Multiplayer Mayhem
Awarded to the best indie mobile game as voted by SXSW Gaming attendees.

Gamer’s Voice Video Game: Astroneer
